I am a fairly active 54 year old, retired military, in and out of the gym, but mostly out of any exercise for about a year. Life, work, babies, and unfortunately death happens in my family. I have been on the mycology “journey” for a little over a year. I realized I suffer from mild ptsd, copd, asthma and all the other aches and pains most people have, not to mention the toll life takes on a persons mental health in general. I’ll mention my wife bc she had double knee surgery in December ‘23 after years of bone on bone grinding, and her muscles basically had atrophied from compensating and shifting weight for years. She has never been a gym person, she was a runner but had stopped running 17 years ago. My wife’s rehab had ended early August and I had agreed to go to the gym with her. Not that I was trying to lose weight but since July I went from 195 lbs to 185 lbs. my wife went from a size 10 down to 8 I don’t ask her weight lol bc that’s not gentlemanly. I am convinced that my focus, mental clarity, are better and I’ve noticed I have been more patient with working out with my wife, in the past I would get very impatient with any partner in the gym and I contribute that to my overall stress levels being down and overall well being sense, low stress=lower cortisol levels which can lead to higher fat levels.
