California is taking a groovy step forward as the third state in the country to decriminalize psychedelics! Passing of Senate Bill 58, adults 21 and older will soon be able to possess and use small amounts of plant and mushroom psychedelics. It’s all about promoting personal well-being and healing, man!
Introduced by state Sen. Scott Wiener, this bill got the green light in a 42-11 vote. And it’s not just about decriminalization – the bill also aims to establish “community-based healing” practices, Like Fullsend OrgaNicks LLC, where groups can come together for therapeutic psychedelic experiences. Talk about good vibrations!
This success is a big deal! Wiener, who previously saw his bill stall out in the Assembly. But now, he’s celebrating on the platform formerly known as Twitter (you know the one)!
And it’s not just California getting into the psychedelic groove. Recent surveys show that folks across the nation are supporting reform for psychedelic drug use. People want regulated therapeutic access and fewer criminal penalties. It’s all about spreading the love, man!
California is joining Oregon and Colorado in making history with psychedelic legislation. Leading in first with Oregon was the first to establish a regulatory framework for psilocybin. Colorado legalized five natural psychedelic substances. California time to shine!
But we’re not there just yet. The bill has to go back to the Senate for approval before it lands on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk. If he signs it, S.B. 58 will take effect on Jan. 1, 2025. The psychedelic revolution is on its way!
Supporters of decriminalizing psychedelics believe in the mental health benefits of these soulful substances. Preliminary data from The Johns Hopkins Center for Psychedelic and Consciousness Research shows that psilocybin therapy can reduce symptoms of major depressive disorder for up to a year. It’s all about giving California’s veterans, first responders, and others struggling with mental health the access they deserve.
Sen. Wiener summed it up perfectly: “It’s time to stop criminalizing people who use psychedelics for healing or personal well-being.” Let’s bring on the good vibes and let the psychedelic journey begin!
